Time for harsher punishment

In Alabama and many other states, the death-penalty statute allows capital punishment for a person convicted of killing a police officer. Perhaps it's time we used that same logic when it comes to police officers committing crimes. I got thinking about it after reading The story of two Ft. Deposit, Alabama police officers charged with robbing a motorist on I-65 about Midnight on June 30th. There should be harsher penalties for any law officer who commits a felony. Legislators are always calling for tougher penalties for crime. Wonder if they would endorse my proposal?

  1. The legislature would never endorse your proposal. Cops get to live by a different set of laws than the citizens who pay their salaries. Just look at all the cops accused of police brutality or unjustifiably killing someone....what do they get? A slap on the wrist, an internal investigation that 99% of the time exonerates them and they get reinstated to their jobs. Most of them get pay while investigations are ongoing.

Cops steal money from motorists all the time under the guise of the drug war. You can no longer travel with 'a large amount of cash' in your vehicle. If the cops stop you they will take it, claim it is money from selling drugs and you have to go to court and fight to prove your innocent to try and get your money back. That usually winds up costing more than what the cops stole. Funny thing is no government has ever determined what constitutes a 'large amount of cash'.
