About College Football

Alabama will resume Spring practice on Monday after their Spring break...and Auburn will be on the field too.
And the vast majority of the population in Alabama will follow every injury and suspension, and each proclamation by the coaches as if they were a secret rediscovered gospel. And the first game is almost half a year away!

One big sports fan who is also a journalist has studied fans of pro and college sports, and concluded it's great for the team owners and the colleges and the fans, but no so much the players:

"College football may be the worst of all, and I love college football. They are not even getting paid to destroy themselves. This is ruinous to their bodies. That’s not even mentioning all of the incredibly horrible things that athletic departments do, fighting over money with the academic side of things, for example. I question the entire enterprise."
There's a lot more in his book "The Secret Life of Sports Fans"...there's an interview with him on this page. A good read, as they say.

ALSO: Another new sports book focuses on changedsin sports, including pressure on college football to share the wealth with players:
"The NCAA tournament is an $11-billion deal all by itself. Coaches make millions and the players don't see a thing. This is one of those things where I really do believe that the center will not hold. Because coaches keep getting paid more and more, players more and more are seeing the NCAA as really this amoral tool of enforcement, like something that has no real moral weight."
