MMMM #477 --- Drive-by Journalism, and More Reporters Arrested. And You want to go to J-School?

GQ is out with a report on "America's 20 Craziest Politicians"
And yet while there are several Soutrherns on the list, not a single Alabamian is included!
Are we not trying hard enough?

The fallout continues over Rolling Stone's discredited report on a rape at the University of Virginia. After a board meeting:

“Like a neighborhood thrown into chaos by drive-by violence, our tightly knit community has experienced the full fury of drive-by journalism in the 21st century,”

                                             U-Va. Rector George Keith Martin

You don't have to know a lot about the practice of journalism to know what he meant by that drive-by phrase.
UPDATE: 4-22-14-- The magazine has asked The Columbia Journalism School to investigate the rape story debacle.

On top of that, reporters are being arrested at a faster rate...

And an AP reporter is spilling his guts about coverage of the Middle-East and Israel.

He seeks to alert the public about the dramatic difference between what journalism used to be – and still pretends to be – and what it actually is.
Finally The New York Times and The Montgomery Advertiser have both recently gone through staff reductions.

And yet there are still High School Seniors electing to make Journalism their major in College? The optimism of the young, I suppose.
