Saturday Status: A (Barely) Alabama Woman wins BIG

Her home is on a dirt road in Silas Alabama, just a few miles East of The Mississippi line, but she can afford to move just about anywhere now.

Tamar Howard, has won the Publisher's Clearinghouse 5k a week for life prize....and the right to name someone who will inherit the prize for their life too.

It was a Mississippi TV station that was on the scene to videotape the surprise presentation.

For the record, Silas has a population of just a few hundred---452 to be exact. And the average income is well below Ms. Howard's new worth:

The median income for a household in the town was $20,882, and the median income for a family was $25,833. Males had a median income of $27,955 versus $18,500 for females. The per capita income for the town was $14,074. About 16.5% of families and 19.0% of the population were below the poverty line, including 27.1% of those under age 18 and 11.6% of those age 65 or over.
I suspect the income figures will be up dramatically in the next census, if she stays there.

She supposedly had no advance notice, but really? Someone shows up unannounced outside a rural Alabama home, horn blaring, and nobody shoots anyone?
