Sunday Focus: Bad Dogs.

This dog killed a man in West Virginia.
It has happened again, this time in San Diego California Thursday evening....a family's pet dog attacked and killed their three-day-old baby son. The family had the child and the dog in bed with them as they watched TV.

AL.COM reported the dog was a pit bull mix. And their click-bait headline forces you to read it to determine is has NO "AL" connection:

3-day-old infant dies after being bitten by family dog

A 3-day-old baby died after being bitten by a pit bull-mix in the child's San Diego, Calif. home on Thursday night.

Yet the story they quote as their source, in The San Diego Union Tribune has conflicting information in it...calling it a pit-bull mix in the lead, but then reporting:

It is a 2-year-old, neutered male American Staffordshire terrier-mix named Polo
But pit bulls are known to be dangerous:

"...pit bull owners and their family members are (frequently) victimized by their pet dogs. From 2005 to 2015, pit bulls killed 232 Americans, about one citizen every 17 days. Of these deaths, 51% involved a family member and a household pit bull.4 Notably, in the first 8 months of 2011, nearly half of those killed by a pit bull was its owner."

I've owned dogs...for some years three at the same time....
but never a pit-bull or a pit-bull mixed dog. Nor will I.

"Your child's safety comes first. If, after working with a professional and on your own, you are still not 100% confident about the safety of your baby with your dog, then finding your dog another home to protect the well-being of your child and pet is a step you may have to take."
