Terry Gilliam's Classic Time Bandits

The Capri Theatre in Montgomery, Alabama's longest continually operating movie theatre, is participating in the first annual  Art House Theatre Day on Saturday, September 24 with a special showing of Terry Gilliam's classic comedy-adventure-fantasy Time Bandits.

The newly restored Time Bandits is being released especially for Art House Theatre Day. There will be one show only at 7:30 on Saturday, September 24. Tickets for the event are $8 for Capri Members and $10 for the General Public. Online ticket sales begin one week before the show.

Art House Theater Day celebrates the legacy of independent theaters as advocates for cinema arts. In an age where media has become more digital than tangible, more solitary than social, art house theaters remain the physical spaces where film lovers congregate and connect with intrepid, creative filmmaking. They are the beating heart for new and exciting cinema that is shaping the future of the medium.

In recent decades, a colorful constellation of art houses has emerged across the globe. This art house movement has nurtured a flourishing ecosystem of adventurous audiences, independent productions, and an incredible diversity of original filmmaking. Art House Theater Day is a worldwide celebration in honor of this movement, a day to celebrate cinemas that stand the test of time and the tremendous film culture that art house theaters promote.

The Capri Theatre, owned and operated by the Capri Community Film Society, has served as Montgomery's Independent Art House since 1983.

Capri Theatre director Martin McCaffery said "We are happy to participate in Art House Theatre Day, and we are especially thrilled to be showing one of my favorite films, Time Bandits."

In support of the inaugural Arthouse Theater Day, Janus films will release TIME BANDITS back into movie houses. Janus is thrilled to participate be presenting TIME BANDITS as a viewing option in a beautiful new 2k restoration supervised by Terry Gilliam. Attendees on 9/24 will all receive a limited-edition print of the map prop used in the film.

Time Bandits, originally released in 1981, is written and directed by Terry Gilliam, the American member of Monty Python's Flying Circus and the director of the Python classic Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Time Bandits is a time jumping adventure about an 11-year-old boy who joins a band of  little people who have stolen a map of time and are on the run from The Supreme Being and Evil.

Time Bandits stars John Cleese as Robin Hood, Sean Connery as Agamemnon, Ralph Richardson as The Supreme Being, Iam Holm as Napoleon and David Warner as Evil.
