MMMM # 556-- P***Y Talking Trump, Click-bait, and Amada Knox "Journalism"

You know by now about Trump's "locker room" conversation that was not in a locker room.
Officials like Martha Roby and Governor Bentley (who has his own history with inappropriate comments) now say they will not vote for Trump. Bentley also said he would not vote for Clinton, though Roby seemed to leave that option open.
Anyway there is a direct media angle to the story...the part involving the the then-entertainment reporter who was the other person in the Trump conversation, Billy Bush

From The Washington Post:

At that point in the audio, Trump and Bush appear to notice Arianne Zucker, the actress who is waiting to escort them into the soap-opera set.
“Your girl’s hot as s---, in the purple,” says Bush, who’s now a co-host of NBC’s “Today” show.
“Whoa!” Trump says. “Whoa!”
“I’ve got to use some Tic Tacs, just in case I start kissing her,” Trump says. “You know I’m automatically attracted to beautiful — I just start kissing them. It’s like a magnet. Just kiss. I don’t even wait.”
“And when you’re a star, they let you do it,” Trump says. “You can do anything.”
“Whatever you want,” says another voice, apparently Bush’s.
“Grab them by the p---y,” Trump says. “You can do anything.”
Trump released a video apology about Midnight Friday "if anyone was offended".

As for Bush:

Billy Bush, in a statement released by NBC Universal, said: “Obviously I’m embarrassed and ashamed. It’s no excuse, but this happened eleven years ago — I was younger, less mature, and acted foolishly in playing along. I’m very sorry.”

Bush will turn 45 on Thursday, so he was 34 when the conversation happened. And Trump? He was 59.
(By the way, The WaPo also reports that NBC knew about the video for days before the Post published the story. NBC held it, consulting with lawyers.)

I never understood the TV news fascination with the Amanda Knox "story". Some outlets were all but establishing bureaus in Italy to cover it.
Now a Netflix documentary is out about the murder allegations and the irresponsible journalism surrounding it. From The N.Y. Times review:

"What emerges is less a portrait of an accused killer than a glaring revelation of unprincipled journalism and unapologetic sexism. Inflamed by the smug moral certitude of the chief prosecutor, Giuliano Mignini, and by the smutty insinuations of reporters like Nick Pisa — a former contributor to The Daily Mail of London who marvels that anyone would expect fact-checking in the race to the front page — the public was all too eager to embrace rumor over reason."

Click bait of the week:

'The Price Is Right Live' coming to one Alabama city early next year"

At first I thought..ah, there must be a competition among several places to bring the show there.
No, just click bait. Would have ruined the AL.COM story to name the city in the headline? Shame.

  1. "If anyone was offended." The exact words that newly-sworn-in Governor Bentley used the day after his first inauguration, in regards to saying that only his brand of Christianity was acceptable.
