Food on The Table

Three takes on the Farm Bill approved by the U.S. House today:

From a Rep. Bradley Byrne (R-AL)  news release:
"Increases funding to $60 million per year for the Emergency Food Assistance Program, with $20 million to be used for the Farm-to-Food Bank program providing inexpensive food for low-income families..."

From a Rep Terri Sewell D-AL) news release:

"The bill cuts the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) by $23 billion, underfunds the Beginning Farmer and Rancher Development Program, adds costs to rural development loans, and eliminates the Conservation Stewardship Program, among other provisions."

and From a Rep, Martha Roby R-AL) news release:

"This farm bill addresses many of the challenges farmers face daily, and that’s why I was proud to cast my vote in favor of the legislation today.”

Makes you wonder if they actually voted on the same bill.
Whatever the case, it heads to the U.S. Senate next.
