Martian Mystery

One of the themes on this website has been scientific curiosity.
I grew up on The Apollo and Gemini missions, and lived the ups and downs of the late Shuttle Program.
The Mars missions of the past few years have produced even more space postings than usual.
So when NASA says the Curiosity Rover has made a potentially historic discovery via its on-board lab, it's worth a note.
What could it be that has the scientists so excited? Bones from long gone creatures in a soil sample? A new gas that can replace fossil fuels?
We'll apparently have to wait. They don't want to get burned by saying they've found something truly extraordinary and then say...uh, hold on a moment...
     What could it be?
