M(F)MMM # 249 -- P.S. Mr. Kennedy

Birmingham News editorial writer Joey Kennedy complains in a new column about reaction to an op-ed piece about immigration.
He says anonymous comments from readers are unfair to the author of the column, a Samford Professor who concludes Alabama's Immigration law is hurting the state's economy.
But Mr. Kennedy is forgetting that it is his own paper's policy of allowing those anonymous comments that provides the cowards a way to take their shots!
I think papers should require people to use their real names when they take their shots. That policy worked for letters to the editor for a few hundred years, no?

  1. In Joey's defense, I know that he has been pushing al.com (part of Alabama Media Group) to do away win anonymous commenting for some time. They recently added a "Login via Facebook" option but only a few have made the switch.

Apparently, the powers that be at AMG believe that doing away with anonymous comments would drive away customers. Says something about the audience they're playing to, doesn't it?
