Media Extra: A Christmas Ad for an English Supermarket Chain.

This TV ad is based on a true event that occurred a Century ago during World War One.  And that makes it controversial, at least in England. Here's the story.

  1. Awww. It is a cute ad, sensitively produced.

Yes, it is an advertisement but one with a message beyond the chocolate.

  3. It was means to to be the war to end all wars but instead it marked the start of the age of modern total war. Yet, still there existed hope and a sense of common humanity that shine through the darkness. Thus was a war that took the lives of millions and was but the preliminary for WWII, which took horror to a new level. As former enemies, now friends, watch the poppies grow, let us hope that some day we can learn these lessons once and for all, rather repeat them generation after generation.

  4. It was said to be the war to end all wars but it ushered in the modern age of total was. Still, hope and humanity shone through the darkness. While the USA participated late in the war, it never suffered the incredible losses of the other Allies and the Central Powers. One only had to see the sea of red poppies displayed in the moat of the Tower of London this autumn to get a hint of what the loss of close to 900,000 UK and Imperial forces looked like.
As the celebration of this tragic war plays out amongst the old enemies, now friends, let us pray that we need learn the lesson of the folly of war generation after generation.

  5. Not really taking it as an ad for the chocolate. I took it as a seasonal thought that was sponsored by a chocolate manufacturer.

Chocolate and crisp were something that soldiers had. This showed them sharing what they had.
