It is Memorial--not Veterans---Day.

Every year I remind folks in the news biz (and out) that the purpose of Memorial Day is to remember the men and women who died in service to the country. Living men and women who served are remembered in November on Veteran's Day.
Saying "Happy Memorial Day" to someone remembering his or her lost comrades might not be appropriate.

The Associated Press has  a story about a guide written by journalism students at Michigan State University. It includes that reminder, and more, to help civilians deal with the military. It probably should be required reading in American newsrooms.
The book is titled 100 Questions and Answers about Veterans. it will be available in print and digital editions.
