Media Extra: The NO TV Diet

The Washington Post created this great headline for the story:

The last time Pope Francis watched TV, ‘Cheers’ was the top-rated show

That's right. The Pope hasn't watched TV since 1990!
     No FOX News (nor CNN).
No Mother Angelica (EWTN. LIVE from Irondale, Alabama).

The Museum of Communications points out he stopped watching just in time to miss a lot of religious programming, of a sorts:

Religion began to find its way into some prominent series in the early 1990s, this time not as a major theme, but as a significant element nonetheless. A "new age" or "seeker" religiosity was a fairly common theme of Northern Exposure, frequently introduced by the character Chris. Picket Fences regularly dealt with religious themes and ideas, and born-again Christian joined the firm in L.A. Law during this time. The short-lived Touched By An Angel repised themes found in Highway to Heaven. Religious awakening and interest was also a theme of thirtysomething.

I doubt the Pope will have any kind of awakening anytime soon. The major source for news for the majority of people in the U.S. is TV, and Pope Francis says he only reads only one newspaper a day.
Maybe he's getting his info from a higher power.
