Finally!

I complained for years about the LARGE TYPE name of the state's Agriculture Commissioner on the gas pump inspection stickers at gas stations. One Ag Commissioner told me on-air it was so people would know who to call in case they had a complaint!
I am pleased to see that the new Republican Commissioner, John McMillan, finally changed it..! The word "approved" is in the space where we used to see an ad for the next election cycle. I approve, Mr. Commissioner!

  1. Don't be to sure on this. Betcha someone whose last name is "Approved" runs for Ag Com in the next election.

After all, if a certain gubernatorial candidate legally changed his name to "Dr." and then went back to court to remove it . . .

  2. Tim, you and I part ways on this issue, though I agree this has some semblance of acceptability. What about the Governor's name as it appears on the "Welcome to Alabama" signs that dot the state's borders - especially on the Interstate system? Is that an advantage? And, as I recall, it has NEVER been an "ad for the next election cycle" - which is your oblique swipe at the previous commissioner, who was a gubernatorial candidate. As I recollect, he was the first in a very, very long time - if ever - to so campaign. Please correct me if I'm mistaken.

  3. Actually, somewhere---if not on this blog then on air in TalkRadio, I made the same point about the highway signs! A simple Welcome to Alabama! will suffice. (-: And I was not picking on Democrat Ron Sparks. The AG Comm's before him used the stickers too! Tim

  4. I've seen the governor's name on "Welcome" signs in various states and in DC.

Harmless in my opinion, but it costs money to change the signs when a new governor is elected.

Then of course, there's the free road maps which suddenly become obsolete. By the way, why are those road maps impossible to fold back neatly once they've been opened?
