Guilty Until Proven...
Not for the first time, you have to wonder what happened to the presumption of innocence in the U.S. The Birmingham News reports today that a Tide tackle has been suspended from all football activities following robbery charges being filed against him. Coach Saban is quoted as saying the "University and football program have strict guidelines regarding legal issues of this magnitude." If you missed it on-air, you might want to catch the documentary I produced, "Presumed Guilty", online. I'm sure there are instances when a suspension is warranted...preventing an accused domestic violence suspect from having access to his or her alleged victim, but if we presume the player is innocent, why suspend him and treat him as guilty?
