Forgotten connection

If I ever knew about it, I had forgotten that there was a direct connection between Jim Morrison of Doors fame and The Gulf of Tonkin incident in 1964 that led to an escalation of The Vietnam War. Read the story in today's N.Y.Times...and thanks to my long ago classmate (and Navy Vet) Jim Whalen for the heads' up.
In the late 1960's, several of my best friends formed a band we called "The Wendigo" (don't ask!). Though we lacked some essentials like real talent, we had a lot of fun...and The Doors "Light My Fire" was a favorite. I liked it because I played the electric organ, and you know how important that is to the song. At the height of the band's existence, we somehow convinced the priest at the chapel at JFK Airport to let us perform for Christmas Midnight Mass. This was about 1967 I think, maybe '68. Somewhere in the middle of one carol or another, Steve Maietta looked over at me and whispered good-naturedly "That sounds more like Light My Fire!".
I don't know about the congregation, but I'm convinced the priest was tone deaf.
