Is Rupert Murdoch's announcement that his News Corp.
will start charging for all online content the first wave that the rest of the media will quickly follow...or an experiment destined to fail because readers and viewers have become accustomed and content to finding free content where ever that may be online. The News Corp. decision comes after the company posted a loss of $203 Million after a $1.1 Billion dollar profit a year ago. Companies like News Corp. are not going to sit still and watch their profits disappear. They have already cut personnel, to the bone in some cases, now its time to increase revenues. And you can bet Murdoch's great experiment will be watched very carefully by anyone with a dollar invested in media. The decision by newspapers to put their content online free is considered the media's "original sin", one that caused the current revenue disruption.
