Water Water Everywhere...

In a story in The NY Times, Atlanta officials credit better "Spin Doctors" in Alabama and Florida for a recent court victory for the two states in the ongoing water wars. Georgia and the city of Atlanta are mounting a major appeal to that decision...and Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue has appointed the President of Georgia Power (who, in fact worked for AlaPowCo for a decade or so) to help it in the battle. Since both Georgia Power and Alabama Power are owned by The Southern Company, the appointment has resulted in complaints from Governor Riley about the company taking sides.

  1. Southern Company claiming to be neutral in this fight doesn't pass the smell test. Garrett was not appointed until Georgia's situation got desperate after losing in court. Also, Sonny Perdue's tone has become ultra aggressive since Garrett was appointed. Georgia Power has the most to lose out of all of Southern Company's subsidiaries and this move reinforces that.

How would it look for the Southern Company if the CEOs of Alabama Power and Gulf Power made high profile appearences in this fight and began battling it out? It will be interesting to see what Southern's lobbyists in D.C. do when this issue is taken up by congress.

  2. I find an analogy here to JeffCo and the Tragic City Occupational Tax.

GA has not learned to do with what they have, thus, they want more... which translates into yours.

GA's actions on this issue have made them the laughing stock of the nation.

Recall how they were going to "take over" part of Tennessee they considered to be "rightfully" theirs? As I recall, it was very near Chattanooga.

    IDIOTS!

If their legislature had any imagination or common sense, they'd be sucking water out of the ocean at nuclear powered desalination plants.

    Alas, however, they have neither.

When they get serious about their own water, the whole state will overhaul laws to reflect the degree of importance they place upon water use.

Alas, also, they've neither done that.

Conclusion: They're a bunch of lazy, thieving scoundrels.
