Another Movin' On Up

Following Scott Stantis' move up to the Chicago Tribune comes the promotion of former Montgomery TV Anchor Carrie Kurlander to a top position in The Southern Company. Kurlander had been serving as Assistant to The President of Alabama Power, but she'll be moving to Atlanta to become Vice President, Communications, for Alapowco's parent company. It's obviously a great promotion for her! Carrie and I have for years been part of a media panel for Girl's State at Troy University, and that gathering won't be the same without her! Maybe the Girl's State crowd can convince her to come back next Spring?

  1. From journalism to spouting the company line for one of the region's most powerful and dangerous companies. A promotion? Perhaps in some sense. Selling out? Others may call it that.

  2. Carrie had been doing PR for Alabama Power for the past 11 or so years, so it's not quite the jarring change I may have implied in the post. Journalism doesn't pay much, and PR does. Its the people who cross the line back and forth multiple time that concern me more. Just what are they?
