I loathe and utterly despise the self-aggrandizing that infects modern media.
For example, when I clicked on the linked phrase "Pew Research Center" in the NYT article you cited, it took me to search results for that phrase on the site.
Almost every news organization practices self-promotion. You've written about it, Tim. Such-and-such teevee news talking heads say something like, "go to our website and..." blah, blah, blah. It takes you right back to their site.
It's a damn circle!
Why?
They sell advertising!
They want eyes on the set... because they DO have something to sell. It's called "airtime," also known as "advertising" in common parlance.
For ONCE! I wish some group of news disseminators would have the forthrightness to cite a source other than themselves!
Why Tim (though I respect you and your style greatly), you do it too.
Call me cynical, but I don't trust any of 'em!

You didn't link to the original source either.
