Tibetan monks studying science at Emory in Atlanta


     I thought for sure I was misreading it when I spotted this headline on an Atlanta Journal-Constitution story  online.
     Georgia? Monks? Science? A good read and a signpost of the global society.

    Some of the Tibetan monks from the Drepung Loseling Institute in Atlanta came to Birmingham last November to present sand painting, music, and other aspects of Tibetan culture. I covered it on my blog( http://notdarkyet-commentary.blogspot.com/2010/11/tibetan-sand-mandela-precision-and.html ) It was indeed a wonderful time of cultural exchange and evidence of our sharing in a global society.

    Yes Charles! I did a story for Ch. 42 in the 90's during a visit they made to the Birmingham Museum of Art...they played these very long wooden horns as they created and then undid their sand sculpture. Thanks for the comment!
