I don't like pecans, but the price of a relatively small bag caught my attention at the supermarket on Friday. $14.99???
Now I know why I've seen so many more people than usual on lawns collecting them!
And in another store the Valentines were on discount:
Which seemed a little sad.
I was in Fresh Market this afternoon. Pecan halves are $14.99 per pound in the bulk bin. I'm guessing that the package of pecans that you saw (Publix?) had less than a pound.
ReplyDeleteCandies for Christmas, Valentine's Day, Hallowe'en etc. are marked down immediately after the holiday.
ReplyDeleteWhat's your point, Tim?
Only that it seems sad that people will buy leftover stuff that is supposed to have meaning attached to it..not just tossed in a discount bin. Or maybe there's no meaning at all! (-:
ReplyDeleteIt's candy. Same stuff people buy year-round, but seems that anything in the shape of a heart will sell prior to Feb. 14. But on Feb. 15 the same candy is worth much less.
ReplyDeleteThe Chinese have discovered they like pecans. That accounts for the increased price. Can you blame the farmer for wanting to obtain a higher price for his product?
