I had been following this developing story, and wanted to head up to Birmingham to report on it in person, but was unable to make the journey.
An early Birmingham Ballet artist is staging a ballet this Saturday in honor of Virginia Simpson, the ballet benefactor who was murdered in a case the remains unsolved to this day. Two places to read the details...at al.com/The Birmingham News and at FOX-6.
It was one of the first big stories I missed in Alabama (though not the last!)....and when The Birmingham News came out that afternoon (it was an afternoon paper back then) there was a blaring headline on page one. I'm pretty sure everyone else missed it too.
An earlier post here mentioned the son being arrested and brought before a judge for a preliminary hearing...and the judge threw out the charges. "Popsy" Simpson is believed to still live in the Birmingham area. If he's ever interested in doing an interview, I would be happy to talk with him.
