AP reports on a number of Northeast States that are being much more aggressive about collecting taxes, like a dentist in Vermont being charged sales tax for the toothbrushes and floss he "gives" patients. (I'm sure he deducts the cost of those items, and in the long run, charges patients indirectly.)
But the point is that states are looking for revenue everywhere, since there seems to be a ban on increasing taxes.
Alabama's tax collection increased sharply in 2011, but state officials say that may partly be because they were faster at processing payments.
On the city level, Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange has started enforcing fees against motorists involved in accidents to recover police and fire costs.
The truck company involved in yesterday's six hour long blockage of I-65/I-85 Southbound in the city is likely going to get a significant bill.
