Walking

The South scores the worst of the regions when it comes to people walking, according to a new CDC report. But The South is also the most improved.
That could be one of the reasons obesity is such a problem here, and may indicate a less fat future ahead.
OK, maybe a Downtown Montgomery alley isn't the absolute
best place to walk, but the city is planning a walking track
as part of the redevelopment of the old Steve & Barry's store
in the old Montgomery Mall. A step in the right direction?
This a a car culture region. Even in my neighborhood there are places with no sidewalks. I remember being told that in some "better" neighborhoods in suburban Birmingham, residents didn't want sidewalks because it would allow the riff-raff to "walk" in.

  1. Even worse, I've seen people telephone each other in the same office or the next, rather than getting up and going to the other's desk!
