A week from Tuesday, on 9-18-12, voters in Alabama will be asked to amend the State Constitution to allow a transfer of money from the Trust Fund to the General Fund to prevent a meltdown of Medicaid and Corrections funding.
Lots of people on both sides of the lopsided political aisle hate it.
And some of those folks will vote for it anyway. Retired AEA head Paul Hubbert is one of those. He'll say yes holding his nose all the way.
Health Department Head Dr, Doctor Don Williamson urges a yes vote because of the impact a no vote will have on Medicaid.
A rookie Alabama State Senator from North Alabama has scheduled a news conference tomorrow in Homewood to urge voters to vote no. Republican Senator Paul Bussman, District 4, says scare tactics are being used to convince people to vote for it, and the people behind it are hiding mismanagement of state tax dollars.
Meanwhile, House Minority (i.e., Democratic) Leader Craig Ford opposes the amendment.
I'm betting there won't be a lot of people voting anyway. And some of those who do will have clothes pins on their noses, no matter what their decision. The Legislature failed to do its duty when it left this decision up to the voters.
