Here is a link to their map and data base.
I can tell you that there were at least 42 incidents recorded in Alabama between 1961 and 2004...though some records were destroyed by the scouts prior to the 1990's.
Six incidents were reported in Montgomery, none with a name attached.
There are cases in all of the large cities in the state, including Birmingham, Mobile and Huntsville, and in smaller places, like Tuscaloosa, Selma, Pleasant Grove, and Marbury.
Most of the Alabama cases include no names, only record keeping numbers, with a single number for each suspect. Here is the list for Montgomery:
Year | Name or ID | City | ScoutUnit | ||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
1998 | 262 | Montgomery | Ala. | 103 | |
1994 | 2621 | Montgomery | Ala. | 222 | |
1993 | 2620 | Montgomery | Ala. | 120 | |
1961 | 2283 | Montgomery | Ala. | 210 | |
1989 | 144 | Montgomery | Ala. |
[UPDATE: An official with the Boy Scouts in Alabama has written a response, a defense of sorts, of Boy Scout policy regarding abuse. You can read it here.] |
Maybe it is time that the United Way "defunds" the Scouts until they can clean up their act as well as stop discriminating on the basis of sexual orientation.
