Montgomempty Mall Update

This sign just came down.

Board of Ed will build a tech school in the old store.

For the first time in years, there in no "For Sale" sign outside the old Parisian store.
The sign came down after the Montgomery Board of Education closed on the purchase of the store. They paid just $250,000, about the price of a good house (before the prices dropped like a rock in 2009).
They'll spend  four million more transforming the building into a technology school.
That means the two end "anchor stores" in the mall are now taxpayer owned. The other end is being turned into a police and fire facility after the city bought it. They hope, with stable bookends, a private investor will finally come along and do something with the center portion. Most likely scenario? A medical use of some kind, with the builder tearing down portions of the middle part of the structure to reel in utility costs.
No shortage of student parking.
Oh, and despite the sale, the River's Edge Church in Montgomery continues to claim on its website that it is buying the old mall for a new location for their ministry.

  1. The church can buy the middle portion. Those escalators could be used for Ascension Day services!
