5th Anniversary of the TVA Coal Ash Spill.

Five years ago today an earthen retaining pond holding millions of gallons of coal-ash laden water broke, spreading across the nearby land and into a river.
Yet the EPA has still not issued regulations on coal ash.
I traveled to the Kingston Power Plant in Tennessee, where the spill took place, to produce a Public Radio story about the spill, and the coal ash that was eventually carried by rail to the largest commercial landfill East of the Mississippi, in Uniontown, Perry County, Alabama. Here (except for the last one) are some of the pictures I took.

It cost TVA $1.1 Billion to clean up the mess. On Friday the agency was awarded $150 Million from one of its insurance companies toward the cleanup.
