Holiday Card Outrage!

Some kids at a Muslim school in the U.S. made greeting cards wishing the military Veterans at a local VA home a happy Al-Hijira (The Islamic New Year)....and the home wouldn't accept them!
     Here's the policy they cite:

"In order to be respectful of our veterans' religious beliefs, all donated holiday cards are reviewed by a multi-disciplinary team of staff led by chaplaincy services and determined if they are appropriate (non-religious) to freely distribute to patients. We regret this process was not fully explained to this group and apologize for any misunderstanding."

     Except.
It was actually kids in Texas at a private Christian school delivering hand-made cards wishing the vets a Merry Christmas who were told no, citing the above policy.
Does the policy make sense when you consider both sides of the coin?
