MMMM # 420 -- THE Game, as reported.

First "Iron Bowl" in Birmingham, 1893. Auburn won 32-22.
So waking up on Sunday morning after the Iron Bowl, I naturally read the coverage in the Alabama papers and TV websites, and then got curious about how the game was being reported on the newspaper front page sports sections elsewhere*.

     Make that not being reported.

Miami Herald. Nada
Dallas Morning News. Not a word.
Jacksonville Florida Times-Union. Auburn Steals Victory...
 Richmond Times-Dispatch. Nothing here.
Savannah Morning News. No Sir.
Charlotte Observer. Not even in the ten college football headlines!

Yes, the story was probably inside those papers somewhere, but not on the Sunday sports sections front pages.
There's an old saying that all politics is local. And so, I guess, is sports. What seems like a game for the ages fades in importance across state lines.

Josh Moon, The Montgomery Advertiser:

"...it might just be the first big sign that the football power, at least in this state, is about to be dispersed a bit more evenly."

[PLUS: KXTV News in North Dakota found a way to strengthen its credibility. Maybe they can just hand over their news department to central casting ?]

* I checked a random sampling of South-Eastern papers, figuring they were more likely to feature to Iron Bowl on their sports front page.

  1. Q. Where do people who live in North Dakota go to get warm in the winter?
