There is no shortage of stress in the news business, and two of the TV News jobs with the most are News Director and Assignment Editor/Manager. It is one of the reasons there is usually a frequent turnover in those jobs.

The News Director at WAKA, Rob Martin, leaves that position after an incredible twelve years on the job. He's going to my old station in Birmingham, CBS 42, WIAT (formerly WBMG), also as News Director.

We held a going away BBQ Friday Afternoon at the station, and there were tears shed! He had such a long tenure that he hired every employee in the newsroom.
Rob was amazingly calm on the job, which I am sure helped him survive it. He was and is a true news leader, sticking to his guns on issues of ethics, and always demanding the best, fairest coverage. I'm better at my job for having worked under him.
Our new news director has been announced to us, but not, I think, in public, so I'll hold off on mentioning that name.
Best of luck Rob!
