Saturday Status: Evil Bots
The Movie Target Earth was an early example of what has become a staple in Hollywood Science Fiction.
More recently, Will Smith battled legions of bots out to kill him and take over the Earth in 2004's iRobot.
Now MIT researchers have developed a self-assembling bot, and earlier displayed little bot cubes that form themselves into various shapes. None of them is in the form of a ray gun yet, but I can't help but feel a bit creeped out.
Do we really want to go down that road?
The people developing bots that will actually be friendly, helpful companions have a very tall wall to climb to reach acceptance.
Or they can wait a few generations till old robotphobic folks like myself pass.

At this very moment I am trying to get my iRobot "Roomba" vacuum cleaner to work.
