They've posted a program the uses data bases of Alabama first names across time, so you can see how popular your name is over decades.
Most of those I tried had a big spike in the 50's---the baby boomers---and then trail off. But some go up and down across the years with no huge increase or decrease..like Emanuel, though that may be because it is not a common name?
Here are the results for James, which is shaped like a shoe..peaks in 1926, 1943 and 1949...and has slowed down considerably since then.
