Alabama's Prison Crisis on NPR

     Steve Inskeep talks to Republican State Sen. Cam Ward and Southern Poverty Law Center attorney Maria Morris about efforts to work across political lines to reduce the state prison population.

     One note to Sen. Ward.....the Alabama prison system was take over before for the same problems, in the 1970's. So it's back to the future.

     The Mothers of these problems are the politicians who have run for reelection in Alabama for decades by endorsing more "throw 'em under the jail" laws.
