My Fourth Thanksgiving in Prison - Counting my Blessings |
Celebrating
my fourth Thanksgiving in prison, I am feeling blessed, not
bitter. Blessed by my friends and family who continuously keep my
spirits lifted.
I
am Blessed by my wife, Lori, who stands by me managing to happily
survive while giving back to the community in the arts and
knitting scarves for cancer patients.
I
am Blessed by my children.
I
am blessed by my daughter Dana, who continues to push for her
dad's freedom while reaching for the stars, seeking an
understanding of the connection between us and our creator, and
now healing after having been almost killed by a hit and run car.
I
am blessed by my son, Joseph, who while working as a lawyer,
devotes much of his time seeking to expose the truth and find
justice for his dad, and who somehow also finds time to help his
mother.
I
give thanks for my special friends, each evening and every
morning, for all you do for me both materially in seeking my
freedom and for your words of encouragement which fuel my
spiritual fight.
I
am Blessed now, inexplicably Blessed, with two hearings, two oral
arguments, a new committed and experienced lawyer, new legal
issues and a new Judge...all of which could lead to the truth and
my release. Perhaps then I can do what I believe God has now put
on my heart, seeking reforms which may balance the scales of
justice for others.
In
prison, I am "over Blessed" as my old friend, Col. Stone
Johnson once told me...it could be much worse...I have what I need
and so much more.
Each
morning, I give thanks for another day of life, for my health, for
my friends and family. Each night, I ask our Creator to Bless you
all with health, safety and happiness...I pray for the children of
the world that they may be loved, nurtured, fed and kept safe,
with special prayers for the children of war-torn countries.
Finally,
I ask forgiveness of man's sins against God's Creation and give
thanks for the beautiful world with which we have been
Blessed...all the living creatures, the physical beauty of
unspoiled nature, the fascinations of our mystical universe, the
sky, clouds, wind, moon, sun, and stars in the night sky, placed
there, no doubt, for our viewing pleasure and to spark our wonder
and awe, curiosity and praise.
For
all of this, I am grateful.
I
hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving,
Don
