Alabama's LONG-Lived Women

Twice in recent weeks there have been international stories about super-centenarian women, and both were Black-Belt*  Alabama-born.

On Friday, it was the oldest living American Veteran 110 year old Emma Didlake, visiting with President Obama at the White House. She was born in Boligee, Alabama.

Two weeks ago it was the oldest living person...116 year old Susahhah Mushatt Jones....born in Lowndes County, Alabama. She is one of only two people born in the 1800's who are still living.

There must be something in the water in the seventeen or so counties that make up that region, *called the black belt because of the color of the rich soil.

It has been said it is home to the state's richest soil and the poorest people. And perhaps also to the longest living women?
