An excellent example of data driven journalism in Saturday's New York Times.
HERE is their data profile of the lives of children living in Montgomery County, Alabama. You can change the county, and I presume, the state.
"Montgomery County is very bad for income mobility for children in poor families. It is better than only about 16 percent of counties.Location matters – enormously. If you’re poor and live in the Montgomery area, it’s better to be in Elmore County than in Butler County or Lowndes County. Not only that, the younger you are when you move to Elmore, the better you will do on average. Children who move at earlier ages are less likely to become single parents, more likely to go to college and more likely to earn more."
