Storm clouds are brewing over the Episcopal Church's acceptance of same-sex marriage.
CNN reports The International Anglican Communion has suspended their Episcopal member churches for three years.
This could mean an eventual split with the International Anglican Hierarchy.
UPDATE: For a much more in-depth investigation into what happened, try THIS story---though I will warn you it may take some real effort to work through the minutia of the Anglican/Episcopalian interactions. Have fun.

CNN reports The International Anglican Communion has suspended their Episcopal member churches for three years.
CNNTraditional Anglican doctrine, "upholds marriage as between a man and a woman in faithful, lifelong union."
Last June, Episcopalians voted to change their canons -- church law -- to allow same-sex marriage and adopted new wedding rites that can be used by straight or gay couples.By doing so, the international archbishops said, the church contradicted Scripture, impaired the bonds among the provinces in the Anglican Communion and sowed mistrust among its members.
This could mean an eventual split with the International Anglican Hierarchy.

Not so fast!
ReplyDeleteA majority of primates have requested that the Episcopal Church temporarily suspend its membership in the Anglican Communion. The meeting has no authority to kick anyone out.
We remain in communion with Canterbury

ReplyDeleteIt's like kissing and making up after your spouse has served you with divorce papers...you can do it, but ti will never be the same again...
We've been doing that, exactly, for a long, long time. Prayer Book revision (and we've got another revision coming up!), ordination of women, openly gay clergy, a drunken bishop . . . the list goes on.
ReplyDeleteBut we're still around.
Yes, I admit that the complexities can be daunting.
