Saturday Data: Lacking focus

The new year has been so filled with events that I found myself this Saturday having trouble focusing.

1--The Vladimir Putin loving Donald Trump? He posted a campaign video expressing support for U.S. Veterans and pledged to treat them better than you-know-who.
But they used stock video showing Russian veterans by mistake. Oops. Double oops, actually, since Trump managed to get deferments avoiding military service. No wonder he wouldn't know a Vietnam Service medal from a Russian award for distinction in special operations.

2--See? Even those gun-hating Canadians have mass shootings. A young man shot and killed his two brothers and then went to a school and shot a teacher and a fourth person.
But:

"Mass shootings are rare in Canada, which has stricter gun laws than the United States. In the country's worst school shooting, 14 college students were killed at Montreal's Ecole Polytechnique in 1989. A shooting in 1992 at Concordia University in Montreal killed four."

The U.S. holds the record, by far, for mass shootings, according to research by a University of Alabama professor's study.

3--The historic weird weather increasing in the new year, with
2015 declared the warmest year on record, a rare hurricane reported well out of season, record breaking rainfall (200% more than usual) after record drought in California and more.
Blame El Nino if you will.

4---The depressing suggestion on Friday that the reason we have not heard form any alien civilizations is that they are all dead

E.T. can't phone home 'cuase his peeps are extinct.
So long SETI

Seems like a waste of real estate for us to be alone, no?

  1. "Blame El Nino, if you will."
