A bill under consideration in the Legislative session
would calculate the value of a person's car in determining whether they
qualify for food stamps.
But a car is frequently the only way to get to and from a job. There is no mass transit outside the state's major cities, and only minimal transit even there.
So, if a person is GIVEN a car worth, say, $12,000 (perhaps through an inheritance), he or she suddenly becomes ineligible?
