I served in Vietnam.

So reading this Washington Post story about two men debating about who lied the most about their Vietnam War experience is infuriating.
I was no hero. Just a kid who avoided the (two year) draft by signing up for three years active service. Canada never occurred to me. Nor did bone spurs.
Especially galling are the chicken hawks who act like military badasses by ordering active service personnel to risk their lives in combat when they completely avoided, or mostly avoided, serving.

Time for an elevator encounter? Look me in the eyes and tell me about your military non-service. I'm waiting.
What did you do in the war?
