If WE can't have a lottery, YOU can't have one either!

Alabama still operates as if it were 1880!
If I had my way, lotteries would be 100% legal in Alabama.

But they are not

Alabama is the only state east of The Mississippi that does not have a state lottery, and the Alabama 1901 Constitution bans them.

What exactly counts as a lottery?
Use this test.
There must be:

  • A PRIZE (You have to have  a chance to win something of value)
  • CHANCE (There is no skill involved)
  • AND CONSIDERATION (You have to buy something or pay a fee to be included).

Simple, right? Apparently not.

Most recently, the chain restaurant that wants to give away weekly meals for a year (The PRIZE). You have to buy one of their chicken feast meals using their app to be in on the drawing (CONSIDERATION)...and they'll select a random buyer (CHANCE, not skill) to win one every week for a year.

Sounds delicious...and it is....and according to that test...illegal in Alabama.
