WOMEN in The House.

The new Congress is meeting, and the Democratic Party Majority includes a good number of new female members and a more diverse membership too.

TIME magazine posted a great video of the new and current female members preparing for a kind of class photo. Front and center is Speaker Pelosi, and next to her is the only Democratic member of the U.S. House delegation from Alabama, Terri Sewell (7th District), first elected in 2011.

What does it mean that she is a member of the Democratic majority? Well, look at the reverse impact. Republican House member Martha Roby (2nd District) was elected the same year.

Her votes on the first day of this new congress? Virtually everything she voted for failed, and virtually everything she voted against won.

Since all but one of the Alabama House members are Republicans, that does not bode well for Alabama getting its way with legislation, at least in the House.
