Academy Award Controversy, with Montgomery in the Middle

The Academy has decided to take some of the awards off the broadcast (ABC 32 on Sunday February 24th), and this year a Montgomery native is up for one of them, the Film Editing Oscar.

Barry Brown is the nominee. He's in Montgomery now shooting a film about a white civil rights protestor who was badly beaten for his mere presence among the black protestors. (Nothing the Klan hates more than a white guy on the "other side".)

Th Academy decided the editing Oscar should be awarded while the TV audience is watching commercials.

From The Academy:
"Four categories – Cinematography, Film Editing, Makeup and Hairstyling, and Live Action Short – were volunteered by their branches to have their nominees and winners announced by presenters, and included later in the broadcast. Time spent walking to the stage and off, will be edited out."

Give 'em an inch.....
UPDATE: The Academy caved. It will show all awards as usual, including the Editing award.

We hope you'll watch our interview with Editing nominee Barry Brown on Saturday, 2/23/2019 at 6:30 PM or Sunday,   2/24/2019 at 9:00AM.
On the same show, Alabama State University Dean of Visual and Performing Arts Dr. Tommie Tonea Stewart.
