I've written about the media showing dead bodies before...in fact for whatever reason, a post from 2010 about the topic continues to be among the most viewed on this website. And now that I've linked to it, it will likely remain so.
This is not a new topic for The New York Times...five months ago they formed a panel to review their use of photos showing dead people. I have not been able to find a follow up to it.
And in 2012, the paper came under criticism for publishing a photo of the body of U.S. Ambassador to Lybia, J. Christopher Stevens.
Can you imagine The Times, or any other reputable paper (whatever that means these days) publishing the latest body photo if the victims were of a New Jersey Caucasian father and his daughter?
