I overheard two women talking today about property taxes.
One was explaining she and her family were going to have to pay taxes before the end of the year and her house is valued at half a million dollars now, and they have a lake house AND 40 acres of woodland they had inherited! Such a burden!
Land and land and land! Oh my!
I was tempted to point out to her that Alabama has the lowest property taxes in the U.S. mainland (average annual property taxes: $817) The lowest of all is in Hawaii $525.
And that inherited woodland? The Alabama farm lobby keeps that rate lower than any other state.
Nobody likes paying property tax, but lets be real!

Ayup. When we moved to Maryland five years ago, to a house half the size of ours in Montgomery, we started paying at least double on property taxes.
ReplyDeleteBut at least we don't have to pay taxes on groceries!
