Dogs that can smell the presence of a gun on a person are being deployed a the state's largest shopping mall, The Riverchase Galleria.
It reminds me of the time Montgomery Police surrounded the Montgomery Mall and blocked anyone from leaving until they were questioned and showed their I.D.
It was the beginning of the end for the property as a retail mecca. It opened 50 years ago this year, but starting in the early 2000's, It lost its anchor stores, followed quickly by smaller retailers.
Fortunately, Montgomery officials were able to convert it into a facility for police, fire and a school...though it took years and is not finished even now.
The thought of seeing police officers with a dogs patrolling inside The Galleria in Hoover?
