Mars At Its Closest:

Mars' orbit is closest to Earth tonight, about 38.59 million miles from Earth, according to NASA.

But My earthbound camera failed to get a decent photo....earlier in the month I got the pinprick view below. Mars is the only planet visible in the shot, with the moon well to the right.

Naturally, the Moon tonight was much more cooperative as a photographic subject...being
"just" 238,900 miles away from Earth.

The next full moon is Halloween night, a so-called "Blue Moon" (so called because there are two full Moons in the same month.) It falls on a Saturday, and the time change occurs on Sunday. Clocks "fall back" one hour.
