The new law would protect street names too.

An attempt to eliminate the 2017 law protecting confederate monuments, names, and other public honors has failed. The legislation has been banished to a subcommittee.

Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall has blocked some changes and is "reviewing" others. The law gives him the authority to fine municipalities $25,000 for violating the law.

Another bill under consideration in the current session would increase that to a $10,000 a day fine with no upper limit.
